“A night at RK Beach… and the storm outside!”
That one line captures everything our Vizag tour stood for — a mix of calm and chaos, sunshine and storm, and moments we’ll never forget.
Why We Chose Andhra Pradesh
Our travel dream was simple — to find a place where the hills meet the sea. That’s what drew us to Andhra Pradesh, a land where coastal calm and mountain mist exist side by side. Among its many destinations, Vizag (Visakhapatnam) and Araku Valley stood out as the perfect combination — the sea whispering in one ear, the hills calling from the other.
Over four nights and five days, our Andhra Pradesh journey unfolded like a story — golden sands at Yarada Beach, peaceful evenings by RK Beach, misty roads leading to Araku Valley, and finally, one unforgettable storm that made the entire experience even more memorable.

Day 1–2: The Charm of Vizag
The first two days in Vizag (Visakhapatnam) felt like walking through a living postcard. The city greeted us with sunshine, sea breeze, and a calm rhythm that instantly made us slow down. With the Bay of Bengal on one side and rolling green hills on the other, Vizag is one of those rare Indian cities where nature and urban life exist in perfect balance.
Our mornings began at RK Beach, The salty air, the sound of waves, and the early golden light made it the perfect start to our trip. We visited the Submarine Museum (INS Kurusura) — a real decommissioned submarine turned into a museum that gives you a glimpse of life under the sea. Right next to it stands the TU-142 Aircraft Museum, another fascinating display of naval aviation history.

Later in the day, we took the ropeway up to Kailashgiri Hill, the most iconic viewpoint in Vizag. The giant statues of Shiva and Parvati stand as a symbol of peace, overlooking the entire coastline. From there, the city stretched out endlessly — beaches, roads, and tiny buildings framed by the deep blue of the sea.
But our favourite place was definitely Yarada Beach — a peaceful stretch of sand surrounded by cliffs, where we could watch the sunset in complete silence. The Dolphin’s Nose Lighthouse nearby offered another breathtaking view of the coastline.

Day 3: A Scenic Escape to Araku Valley

The third day took us on a journey from the coast to the hills — from Vizag’s sea breeze to the cool mist of Araku Valley. The drive itself was pure magic. The road twisted and turned through the Eastern Ghats, with clouds drifting in and out of the hills, sunlight breaking through the mist, and a faint chill in the air that felt refreshing after the warmth of the coast.
Our first stop in Araku was the Borra Cave — ancient limestone formations deep inside the hills. The play of coloured lights on the stalactites and stalagmites made the caves look almost magical, like nature’s own artwork.
Near Borra Cave we stopped at a small roadside eatery that served the famous Bamboo Chicken and Bamboo Biryani — traditional tribal delicacies cooked inside bamboo over an open fire. The smoky aroma, the tenderness of the chicken, and the earthy flavor of the rice made it one of the best meals of our entire trip.We also explored Tribal Museum, Padmapuram Gardens, Anantagiri Coffee Plantation.
By evening, the sky turned silver-grey as light rain began to fall. That night, wrapped in a blanket with a cup of hot coffee at our cozy bamboo cottage, we realised how beautifully Araku slows down time. It wasn’t just a hill station; it was a feeling of peace, simplicity, and connection to nature.

Day 4: The Storm at RK Beach

When we returned to Vizag the next day, the city was under a cyclone alert. A Red Alert had been issued, and travel restrictions were in place. We couldn’t explore much, but destiny had its plan — our stay was right in front of RK Beach.
That night, as strong winds howled and waves crashed furiously against the shore, we watched from our window in awe. It was terrifying yet mesmerizing — a raw display of nature’s power. The sound of the sea and the sight of the stormy waves became an experience that no photo could ever capture.
Day 5: A Morning of Calm
By morning, the storm had softened. The air smelled of salt and rain, the waves had calmed, and sunlight returned to the horizon. It felt like Vizag itself was smiling again — quiet, beautiful, and full of life.
That’s when we realized — travel isn’t always about perfect plans. Sometimes, it’s about the unexpected — the stories that stay with you long after you return home.
