In the singalila Region there is another recent popular valley is called thakum valley.
which is just 7.8 km or 20min car distance towards sandakphu.The altitude of Thakum Valley is approximately 10,000 feet or 3050 meters.
if you walk towards phalut first village will be aahl second will be chandu then Thakum valley then sabargram and last Phalut.

How to Visit?

From any location, you can first travel to NJP or Bagdogra.
From there, you can either book a private cab or take a shared car from Darjeeling More — one departs at 6:30 AM (Contact: Sangey Sial – 7865955513) and another at 11:00 AM.
Alternatively, shared cars are also available from Siliguri Bus Stand.

Your destination is Manebhanjan, from where you’ll need to hire a Land Rover or Bolero.
The total distance from Manebhanjan to Thakum Valley is approximately 50 km, so direct travel to Thakum is not permitted as the Land Rover Association does not allow it. This valley is in Nepal.

However, if you prefer, you can also trek to Thakum Valley for a more adventurous experience.

Permission needed or not?

Yes, permission is required.

For Indian travelers, you need to obtain permission directly from the Manebhanjan Land Rover Association office upon arrival.
The charges are as follows:

Land Rover permit: ₹460
Singalila National Park entry fee: ₹120 per person

Car Cost:
Manebhanjan to Thakum (Pick-up and Drop): ₹7,000
Night Halt Charge: ₹1,500
Only Drop: ₹6,500 (for up to 6 people)

Where to Stay:
There is only one accommodation option available in Thakum Valley.

Couple Room (AW): 1 room for 2 persons
Triple Room: 4 rooms accommodating a total of 12 persons
Six-Bedded Room: 1 room for 6 persons
Dormitory Room: 1 room for 11 persons
Tent Stay: 4 tents accommodating 12 persons in total
Couple Room (N-AW): 1 room for 2 persons
Five-Bedded Room (N-AW): 2 rooms accommodating 10 persons
Five-Bedded Room (AW): 1 room for 5 persons

Stay cost:

It will cost you 1200-1500.00 perhead depending upon season.
including stay+4 time meal(Lunch+evening snacks+dinner+breakfast)

What Can You Experience from This Valley?

From Thakum Valley, you can witness the breathtaking panoramic view of the full Sleeping Buddha range, including the majestic peaks of Makalu, Lhotse, Kanchenjunga, and Mount Everest — all visible on a clear day.

Season and Off-Season Time:

The Singalila Range remains closed from June 15 to September 15 every year.
This period is considered the off-season due to monsoon and maintenance restrictions.
The best time to visit Thakum Valley is from mid-September to mid-June, when the weather is clear and ideal for travel and sightseeing.
