Trekking is often seen as an adventure for the young, but let me tell you—the Himalayas welcome every heart that seeks their beauty, no matter the age. At 60+, I set out with my son, friends, and their family on a journey that turned out to be nothing short of magical—our Sandakphu–Aahl trek from the night of 27th March (Kolkata) to the morning of 3rd April (Kolkata) 2024.
And yes—it was wonderful, amazing, and successful!

🏔️ A Journey Made Special with Izifiso
Our trekking adventure was made smooth and memorable thanks to Izifiso Tours Pvt Ltd. From guidance to warm hospitality, they ensured that every step of our journey was taken care of.
We stayed in some of the coziest and most welcoming homestays:
- Day 1: Dhotrey
- Day 2: Tumling
- Day 3: Kalipokhri
- Day 4: Aahl
- Day 5: Srikhola
Each homestay offered delicious food, comfortable stays, and stunning locations—perfectly placed to enjoy scenic views and local beauty.

🌸 Highlights of Our Trek
✨ Dhotrey – Though we missed the first glimpse of Kanchenjungha on Day 1 and the viewpoint was just 3-4 minutes away from our homestay. Surrounded by a mandir, jungle, and view points within walking distance, Dhotrey was the perfect starting point.
✨ Tumling – Here, our homestay itself was a viewpoint! The sunrise in a crystal-clear sky was a moment etched forever in our hearts.
✨ Aahl – Truly the crown jewel of our trek. From here, we witnessed both sunrise over Mt. Kanchenjungha and Mt. Everest—a rare and breathtaking experience. And as if that wasn’t enough, the marvellous Aahl sunset, for which the place is famous, made the journey unforgettable.

🌄 The Spirit of the Trek
This trek wasn’t just about walking trails or ticking destinations off a list—it was about living every sunrise, every mountain view, every shared meal, and every laugh along the way.
Our 6-member team made this journey even more special:
- Myself – Dr. Banani Ray Chowdhury
- My son – Er. Sagnik Ray Chowdhury
- My son’s friend – Mr. Chandrachur Adhikary
- His mother – Mrs. Mithu Adhikary
- His sister – Ms. Bhumika Adhikary
- His grandfather – Mr. Rampada Ghorai
Together, we proved that trekking is not bound by age—it’s bound by passion, curiosity, and the courage to keep moving forward.

🌟 Final Thoughts
The Sandakphu–Aal trek gave me something more than just mountain views—it gave me confidence, joy, and lifelong memories. At 60+, this trek reminded me that adventure has no expiry date, and the Himalayas will always embrace anyone who seeks them.
To those wondering if age should stop you—let me assure you: it won’t. Pack your bags, tie your laces, and go find your own Sandakphu moment.
🙏 Heartfelt thanks to Izifiso Tours and Travels for making this journey possible.
