From the very first day, the trip felt special. The calm mountain breeze, cozy stays, and the warmth of the people made it a nice experience with nice stay — just as we had hoped.

Our favorite spot? Definitely Darap — a peaceful village that seemed untouched by time. The view from our Darap Homestay was pure magic, especially with Cherry Blossoms blooming all around. It wasn’t just about the flowers though — it was the hospitality, the local food, and the simplicity of village life that made Darap stand out.

We also explored Temi, famous for its tea gardens and picture-perfect views. The gentle slopes covered in tea bushes, with blossoms adding a pink hue to the landscape, felt straight out of a painting.

Luckily, the trip went smoothly — no major challenges, except for the occasional reminder to beware of leeches while walking through the moist forest trails!

If there’s one thing we learned, it’s that every corner of Sikkim has its own story — each destination is unique in its location, vibe, and rhythm.

So if you ever plan a trip to South Sikkim, go during the Cherry Blossom season. Wander through the villages, sip local tea, stay in a homestay, and let the mountains gift you a little peace and a lot of pink petals.

Scrolling through Google for travel suggestions, I came across Izifiso’s page. One call with Arpita, and I instantly felt we were in the right hands. We shared our travel dates, group size, and preferences with Debolina, and she designed a plan that felt custom-made for us.

And that’s how the journey began.

Day 1 — Guwahati → Jameri

We started from Guwahati and reached Jameri — a small, quiet, flower-filled mountain village.
Our stay was a cozy homestay surrounded by nature.
Simple, warm, and welcoming — exactly how a first day should feel.

Day 2 — Sangti Valley

Next morning, we drove to the dreamy Sangti Valley.

A valley wrapped in green hills, with the river flowing across its heart.
Our riverside homestay was surreal — the soothing sound of flowing water stayed with us the entire night.

The next day, breakfast by the river with mist rolling over the valley felt like something out of a postcard.

Day 3 — Toward Tawang

We left Sangti with a heart full of quiet joy and headed toward Tawang.
The weather was perfect — clear blue skies and a gentle cold breeze greeted us.

Day 4 — Bumla Pass (15200 ft)

This was the day we were waiting for.
Bumla Pass — the India-China border, and a historic site from the 1962 Indo-China War.

We started early. On the way, we realized we had left our charger at the stay in Tawang — so the route changed a bit. And honestly?
It turned out to be a blessing.

The scenic beauty on the alternate route was unbelievable —
Layers of mountains, monasteries in the distance, Tawang town shining below us — like a painting.

At Bumla Pass, Indian Army officers guided us, explained the history of the war, current border situation, and even clicked and printed a group photo for us (a memory to treasure ).

After Bumla, we visited the beautiful Madhuri Lake, stopping by several lakes where the reflections of the sky made everything look like magic.

Day 5 — Nuranang Waterfall Stay

We reached Nuranang, where our stay was right beside the waterfall.
Imagine waking up to the sound of a giant waterfall and mist floating in the air.
A calendar-worthy view — real and alive.

The next morning, we spent time near the falls — peaceful, refreshing, unforgettable.

Day 6 — Shergaon

Our journey continued toward Shergaon.
We tried Baroli Fish for the first time on the way!

As soon as we reached Shergaon, the rain started — and the homestay staff came running with umbrellas, ensuring none of us got wet.
Simple hospitality, but it touched our hearts.

When the rain cleared and the power went out, the valley appeared under moonlight — glowing, silent, and unreal.
We sat around a campfire, talking, laughing, soaking in the beauty of the mountains.

Two seniors in our group (my mother and aunt) felt slightly unwell — but the homestay staff constantly checked on them, offering warmth, care, and help.
Their kindness is something I will always remember.

The Journey Back

The next morning, we tasted a local fruit called Ramphal, sweet and refreshing.
With bags full of pictures, memories, and stories — we drove back to Guwahati.

What We Brought Home

• Countless photographs
• A heart full of mountain silence
• New friendships and warm hospitality
• And memories we will carry forever.

How to Visit?

From any location, you can first travel to NJP or Bagdogra.
From there, you can either book a private cab or take a shared car from Darjeeling More — one departs at 6:30 AM (Contact: Sangey Sial – 7865955513) and another at 11:00 AM.
Alternatively, shared cars are also available from Siliguri Bus Stand.

Your destination is Manebhanjan, from where you’ll need to hire a Land Rover or Bolero.
The total distance from Manebhanjan to Thakum Valley is approximately 50 km, so direct travel to Thakum is not permitted as the Land Rover Association does not allow it. This valley is in Nepal.

However, if you prefer, you can also trek to Thakum Valley for a more adventurous experience.

Permission needed or not?

Yes, permission is required.

For Indian travelers, you need to obtain permission directly from the Manebhanjan Land Rover Association office upon arrival.
The charges are as follows:

Land Rover permit: ₹460
Singalila National Park entry fee: ₹120 per person

Car Cost:
Manebhanjan to Thakum (Pick-up and Drop): ₹7,000
Night Halt Charge: ₹1,500
Only Drop: ₹6,500 (for up to 6 people)

A Smooth Start: Guwahati to Cherrapunji

We began our journey at Guwahati Airport, where our pre-arranged Innova and driver were already waiting. The drive to Cherrapunji unfolded through misty valleys, rolling mountains, and dramatic waterfalls — a perfect first taste of Meghalaya’s magic.

Our stay in Cherrapunji was cozy, scenic, and peaceful — exactly what we hoped for. The hospitality of the hosts stood out instantly, especially since we were traveling with our 2-year-old child. They prepared meals just as we requested, ensuring comfort not just for us, but for our little one too.

Exploring Cherrapunji to Jowai

The next leg took us from Cherrapunji to Jowai, where the landscapes opened into serene lakes, limestone canyons, and quiet villages. Our stay in Jowai offered both comfort and a connection to the lush Khasi countryside. Whether it was a short walk to viewpoints or simply relaxing in the tranquil atmosphere, Jowai gave us the slow, soulful pause that all trips need.

Journey into the Wild: Jowai to Kaziranga

From Jowai, we traveled to Kaziranga National Park — home to the iconic One-Horned Rhinoceros. The stay arranged here was wonderful, complete with warm hosts and beautiful surroundings. The highlight, of course, was our Kaziranga Jeep Safari, where spotting rhinos roaming freely in mist-covered grasslands felt like something out of a dream.

A Special Thanks to Our Driver, Nakib

Travel becomes smoother when you feel safe and cared for — and our driver Nakib ensured just that. Not only was he skilled and patient, but his friendly nature created a joyful connection — especially with our little one. His cheerful presence added a personal touch that made the journey even more special.

Return to Guwahati: A Trip to Remember

After our safari and final night stay, we returned to Guwahati, carrying back memories that we’ll treasure forever — scenic drives, warm smiles, homely meals, and moments of quiet happiness.

Sometimes, life gets so overwhelming that all you need is a few days away, just to breathe, reset, and find yourself again.

We had a 4-day holiday , so we thought — why not visit a place where even if you scream, only the mountains can hear you?
And that’s how our journey to Sandakphu began!

Day 1: NJP to Manebhanjan (82 km | Approx. 4 hours)

The journey from NJP to Manebhanjan is a scenic 82 km drive that takes around 4 hours. On the way, you can explore the serene Mirik Lake, the lush Gopaldhara Tea Garden, and the beautiful Sukhia View Point — where you’ll get your first mesmerizing view of Kanchenjunga .

At Sukhia, there’s also a small Nepali market where you can enjoy a cup of hot tea while soaking in the mountain charm. From there, continue your drive to Manebhanjan.

Manebhanjan is a lively border town and an important junction — from here, roads branch out towards Srikhola–Dhotrey, Majua, and the famous Sandakphu route . You can try authentic Nepali delicacies like momo and thukpa, or shop for colorful Nepali flags, handicrafts, and room decor items .

If you have time, visit the Pashupati Market, just 13 km away on the Nepal side at Illam — a vibrant cross-border bazaar known for its unique products and local charm in Nepal.
Our stay at Manebhanjan was incredibly comfortable, and the view from the room was simply perfect — the kind that makes you want to pause and soak in every moment .

Day 2: The Land Rover Adventure to Tumling (82 km | Approx. 4 hours)

The next morning, we hopped onto a classic Land Rover and began our thrilling uphill ride to Tumling .
Before starting the journey, you’ll need to pay INR 460 for the Land Rover entry pass and INR 120 per person as the Singalila National Park entry fee.

After completing all the formalities, the first village you’ll reach is Chitrey — a peaceful spot offering a beautiful view of Kanchenjunga . Don’t miss visiting the serene Chitrey Monastery, located right along the India–Nepal border.

From there, the road continues to Meghma, where you’ll find the second SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) check post . After the quick verification, proceed towards Tumling, a picturesque little village that actually lies within Nepal’s border.

The next morning, make sure to take a short walk to Tonglu Lake — a peaceful spot where you can see the reflection of Kanchenjunga shimmering in the water. During sunrise, the peaks change colors beautifully — an unforgettable sight to start your day with .

Day 3: Reaching Aahl & Sandakphu(25 km | Approx. 3 hours)

This was the most exciting and memorable day of our entire trip — the day we finally explored the highest point of West Bengal, Sandakphu (3,636 meters) .

From here, we witnessed a breathtaking panoramic view of some of the world’s tallest peaks — Makalu, Lhotse, Everest, and of course, the magnificent Sleeping Buddha formation, along with several other known and lesser-known summits .

As the day ended, we experienced one of the most beautiful sunsets in all of North Bengal, painting the sky with shades of gold and crimson .

Standing there, it truly felt like we were face-to-face with Kanchenjunga — the cold mountain breeze, the warmth of the locals, and the peaceful silence of nature made the moment feel like pure therapy for the soul .

Day 4:Sandakphu to Manebhanjan and Back to NJP

I would highly recommend staying one extra night to explore the beautiful Thakum Valley, and then head towards Kalipokhri or Chitrey — both are perfect for a peaceful stopover .

We returned from Sandakphu to Manebhanjan, and then continued our journey to NJP, which took around 8 hours in total .

Alternatively, you can travel from Sandakphu to Darjeeling and spend a night there as well. This route is more relaxing, especially for senior travelers, as driving directly from Sandakphu to NJP can be quite tiring .

If you’re looking for a slow-paced and refreshing experience, I’d suggest planning a 4 Nights / 5 Days Sandakphu trip — it’s the perfect way to explore, unwind, and truly enjoy the serenity of the Himalayas .

Next, we headed to Ooty, and honestly, we weren’t prepared for the cold! We didn’t pack enough warm clothes, but the beauty of the Nilgiris made us forget all discomfort. Waking up to the fog-covered tea gardens and sipping hot coffee in the chilly breeze — it was surreal!

A Taste of South India

Food was another highlight of the trip. From hot idlis and vadas in roadside cafés to authentic dosas served on banana leaves, every meal was a delicious reminder of the region’s rich culinary heritage. The flavors of South India — light, spicy, and soulful — are still fresh on my taste buds!

Inter-state charges were slightly high between Kerala and Tamil Nadu, but the scenic routes, adventure activities, and happy faces in my family made every penny worth it!

Just a few days ago, our family — me, my partner, and our two kids — went on one of the most beautiful adventures we’ve ever had: a trip to Sandakphu. The plan was beautifully organized by Arnab Kund, and we even got to experience the thrill of riding in a Land Rover through the winding mountain trails.

Our journey began from Rangit Majua, the first lovely village in the Singalila region. From there, we passed through Chitrey, Tumling, Kalipokhri, Sandakphu, and finally Aahl, before wrapping up our trip in Darjeeling for a little shopping and relaxation.

Finding Myself in the Mountains

The breathtaking landscapes and natural beauty of the Singalila Ridge were what first drew them here — and the journey more than lived up to the dream.

Their favorite moment? Watching the sunrise from Aahl — a view that painted the sky with shades of gold and pink, while the Sleeping Buddha, Kanchenjunga, Everest, Makalu, and Lhotse stood silently in the distance.

The most magical moment for me was watching the sunrise from Aahl. The sky slowly changed its colors, and the Sleeping Buddha silhouette appeared against the glowing peaks of Kanchenjunga, Everest, Makalu, and Lhotse. It felt surreal — like time had paused just for us.

The Road That Tested and Thrilled Us

No journey is complete without a few surprises. For us, the real challenge was the road from Sandakphu to Aahl — narrow, rocky, and absolutely thrilling. But that’s also where the Land Rover ride became the most exciting part of the adventure!

The Taste of the Hills

We also got to try some delicious local momos, served steaming hot in the cool mountain breeze. Simple, but incredibly comforting — the kind of food that tastes better when you’ve earned it after a long trek.

And at night, the clear sky in Aahl stole our hearts. The stars felt so close that even our kids stood quietly, trying to count them. It was one of those rare, peaceful moments that you never forget.

Why You Should Visit Sandakphu

If you have 3 to 4 nights, I’d definitely recommend exploring the Sandakphu trail — from Rangit Majua to Aahl. Each village has its own charm, and the views along the Singalila Ridge are simply unmatched.

We ended our journey in Darjeeling, sipping coffee and shopping in the little markets — the perfect ending to a trip full of adventure, warmth, and discovery.
