Mission Sandakphu – A Journey to Remember
What started as “Mission Sandakphu” soon turned into one of the most memorable trips of our lives. Seven friends, one dream — to witness the majestic Sleeping Buddha and feel the peace only the Himalayas can offer.
The Road to the Mountains
Our journey began from Manebhanjan, the entry point of the Singalila National Park. Riding through the steep mountain roads in a vintage Land Rover felt like stepping back in time — thrilling, bumpy, and absolutely worth it! The drive was an adventure in itself, with misty trails, fluttering prayer flags, and smiling locals waving as we passed by.
Aahl – The Stay That Surprised Us
We reached Aahl, a tiny mountain village that completely stole our hearts. The stay there was beautiful yet a little surprising and scary — surrounded by mist and silence, it had that perfect blend of thrill and tranquility. When the clouds parted, the sky view from Aahl was breathtaking.
Tumling – On the Nepal Border
Next stop: Tumling, a cozy hamlet right on the Nepal–India border. From here, the view of the Sleeping Buddha was absolutely surreal — a sight we’ll never forget. The place had peace written all over it.
At the Top – Sandakphu Magic
Finally, reaching Sandakphu felt like a dream. Standing at 11,930 ft, the highest point of West Bengal(highest point), the panoramic views of Mt. Kanchenjunga and the entire Himalayan range left us speechless. We also tried local Thukpa, which was warm, comforting, and simply awesome after a long trek.
For the Love of Mountains & Silence
We realized we love mountains and silence — they speak to the soul in ways words can’t. The entire journey refreshed our minds and strengthened our bond as friends.
Travel Precaution Tips
If you’re planning your own Sandakphu trek,or Lanr rover trails, here are a few travel precautions we learned along the way:
Respect the trails and locals — it’s not just a trek, it’s an experience.
Keep sufficient warm clothes, even in summer.
Carry a raincoat or umbrella — the mountain weather changes in an instant.
Keep some dry food and essential medicines handy.
